PS01
PS01- To design an efficient cup sleeve, I had to think of a good way for the paper to wrap around the cup and have a handle for a person to hold. I also had to think of a way for the paper to attach to itself without any glue or adhesives. To keep in the most heat in the cup, I decided to wrap around the whole cup and use a handle that a person had to pinch instead of having a hole for the fingers. For the attachment part, I put slots in the side for a piece of the paper to slide through and lock itself in the slot.
PS02
PS02- Using Acrylic, I had to create a coffee cup holder. At first I thought of designs that used two rings and a handle to hold the cup. It would have consisted of 3 pieces that would fit in the MYKEA concept. The top ring was found to be unnecessary so instead I decided to have a curved handle that put pressure on the cup to keep it in place.
PS03
PS03- Using an Acrylic rod, I had to design and fabricate a paper holder that could at least hold 3 pieces of paper. The problem I faced was attaching the magnets to the rod. The actually holding mechanism to hold the papers was a steel ball. The rod makes it so that the ball is snugly fit but is still able to roll up and down. This makes it easy to slip in the papers while able to hold them when the ball rolls back down.
PS04
PS04 - The purpose of this project was to design a container with two purposes such as the Chinese Take Out Box which is a container for take out food and can turn into a plate if unfolded. Some of the ideas I had were a take a box for a sub place where a box for a 12 inch long sub can turn into a box for a 6 inch sub box for left overs. I also had an idea for a wine carrier that turns into a box to keep the corks. My final design came out to be a box that can transform into a carrier with two compartments and a handle. If I were to improve on this design I would have made something that would have allowed the two compartments to be enclosed instead of open as how it is with the current design.
PS05
PS05- The purpose this project was to design safety glasses that are customized to my face. We did this by 3D scanning my face and importing that to Solidworks so that I can design the glasses according to the parameters of my head. The glasses have material on the top and side in order to protect the eyes from any splashes from chemicals that may occur. The glasses are flat in the front so that the wearer can still wear their prescription glasses if they need to.
PS07
PS07- The purpose of this project was to design a product that would be created using injection molding with silicone. Many ideas were sketched out but the group decided on the fish shaped ice tray as our product. The fabrication of this product is completed in PS08.
PS08
PS08- The fabrication of the design that was created in PS07. We got a 3D mold of our ice tray and then used the silicone mixture for the injection molding and created the ice tray.
PS09
PS09- The purpose of this project was to create a 3D mockup of a product. Many ideas were sketched but I decided to create a mockup of a flask. First I made a bock of the polyurethane expanding foam by mixing the mixture in a cardboard container. Then I carved out the shape of the flask with knives and other equipment. After that, I heated up the modeling clay so it would be soft enough to shape and covered the flask mockup with the clay to create the final product.
PS10
PS10- The purpose of the project was to create a product that made me happy. I designed a phone stand that could be placed in my car and on my desk. I wanted my design to be simple so I only used a single sheet of acrylic. I used a laser cutter to cut the 2D shape and used a heat gun to bend the acrylic into the shape i desired for my phone stand.
